Sunshine and flowers

It's been another week and this is what's been going on at Whitney!  The kitchen floor is going down and looks great.  Bob's been a busy man this week, and here he is taking a break.  I hear that his nickname is Sunshine because he's such a happy and joyful guy and never complains about anything.
Here's the kitchen floor and the floor in the 3rd floor bathroom, both waiting for grout.
Auggie was working hard today too.  He painted the front doors, caulked all the windows and porch ceiling, and worked on the clay flower medallions on the porch.  They are extremely fragile and he had a hard time getting the old paint off and the primer on.  This is just gray primer and eventually the flowers will be painted purple.

His sidekick Brandon has been sick the last couple of days so we kept him company today while we were planting flowers.  Here's what we spent the day doing:
You can see the baby grass too if you look closely!  We met many more neighbors today while we were working in the yard and they sure are glad to have someone in this house!  We have agreed to be on the inaugural Wilkinsburg house tour at the end of September.  We keep hearing how many people want to see the finished house.  We want to show everyone the great work that Jim and his crew have been doing.

Until next week....

Shangri-La

My new friends Brandon and Augie/A.J. were busy this week painting inside and the first coat went on in the master bedroom.  This picture does not begin to convey the shade of green this truly is.  I think we would never be able to fall asleep in that room with that color!!
So it was back to Sherwin-Williams this evening for a new color that hopefully will not make Jim throw up in his mouth again when he opens the can.  The vanity for the new master bath is sitting there in the middle of the floor.  The tiles are up in the master bath waiting for the grout that will be white.
One of the ac units was installed too.
The other unit will go right next to it.
Along with the fluorescent green in the master bedroom, one of the other bedrooms was painted:
Some more of the outside trim:
And Brandon was painting the basement walls today.

The bathtub will be installed for Ruby to get a bath in as well as our four-legged grand kids, Simon and Callie when they come for a visit.
Jim was refinishing the original medicine cabinet in the bathroom today.  He is just such a camera hog and wants to be in every picture I take.  I couldn't get him to stay out of this picture while he was working.
And I've saved the best for last... My Shangri-La.  The S-H-O-E Closet!!
Is this not awesome??  I will get to fill all these spots with shoes and I think I may actually have some spots left over!  :)
And Jim was so generous today.  He said that he may run a week later, like June 7th, and when I told him we'd  move in with him, he said no problem.
The kitchen floor will get laid this weekend so the cabinets can be put in to measure for the granite.  More pictures to come!

New Paint and Flowers!

We've had a beautiful week, not a drop of rain and wall to wall sun!  Perfect for painting!  We got to the house this afternoon and Auggie and pal were up and painting!
Notice the dormer above them!  They got it done with twisting and perching on the ledge of the roof!  Glad they didn't fall and impale themselves on the fence below!  They are doing primer on the two windows now.  It looks so great!  It's such a shame that these two are so shy and quiet.  They hardly talked to me at all while I was there!  (sarcasm)
While they were busy painting, we had action going on out back.  The back porch was being repaired and the lattice was replaced.
Craig and Jim inspecting the work.  It looks so great.  Then we found what has gone on the last couple of days on the inside.  The bathrooms are getting their tile.  They look great!
While we were there today, I planted some flowers in the large urn out front.  It passed Craig's inspection.
We met another neighbor, Michelle and Hannah Bee, her friendly little dog.  They are very anxious for us to be there.  The neighborhood is so tired of looking at this house being neglected and dilapidated for the past 10 years.  Jim said that at least 30 people were there yesterday wanting to take a peak!  And here's some of the other landscaping that got put in this week.
We've got about a month to go!  Stay tuned!
